Has anybody heard anything new on this? I was standing in line last night for an hour and a half and it occurred to me that Nats Stadium holds Half of what a new Redskins stadium would hold.

If you want to let Mayor Fenty know how much you do or do not want to have Dan Snyder build a new "soon to be planned" stadium in your back yard, email:

adrian.fenty@dc.gov
jackevans@dccouncil.us
membersonly@dccouncil.us

The Mayor and Jack Evans are the ones leading this effort. Mr. Evans in particular is advocating this project.

What did I tell you...hail to the Redskins and all of the 100,000 drunk football fans walking through a neighborhood close to you.

Let's take a poll. How many people really believe Dan Snyder is going to do something good for out community...particulary given the idea that he would be *&^%$ over a community in Maryland to come to the RFK site?

Prediction. Concrete for as far as the eye can see, streets overloaded with traffic, drunk fans urinating on bushes outside houses....oh, and the Redskins last in the NFC East.

Sounds fun.

First, I agree, this site has become worthless. Second, there is nothing "politically" charged about expressing an opinion on something as ENORMOUS as HUGE new stadium sitting in our backyard that is being championed by somebody who does not live in our backyard.

Agree or disagree with my opinion, but I think this forum is "suppossed" to be for such conversation.

Sadly, it is not anymore.

Interesting post. Unfortunately, no one comes to Hill Talk anymore so your post will primarily go unread.

Jack Evans and a 100 Thousand plus Stadium Near You

Tom Sherwood reported that the district is contemplating replacing RFK with a NEW 100 thousand plus stadium courtesy of Dan Snyder. Mr. Sherwood indicated that Jack Evans was out in front on his attempts to see this thing through. I contacted Councilman Evans to express my concerns that he is trying to push this new stadium on out neighborhood.

He said 1) he understood my concerns 2) the majority of district residents want to see a new football stadium at the RFK site 3) the land is federal and only a stadium can be built there.

I disagreed with him on all counts.

1 - he did not understand or care about my concerns of having this thing plopped into my backyard no matter what I desire. Clearly.
2. Where he got the information about the "majority" of district residents wanting a new football stadium at RFK is questionable at the least...particularly since the Redskins left because the district DID NOT want to build a new stadium there.
3. Yes, the land is federal land. However, I doubt the feds would prefer a football stadium over a monument park..particularly since they are running out of space.

I recommend you send Mr. Evans an email and let him know you don't want the construction, don't want the 100K plus Maryland and Virginia fans trashing your front yards, don't want the continued waste of prime real estate used to furnish a billionare with a place to drop his stadium. We didn't want car races there, can you imagine the noise of somethign 2 times the size of RFK?
