Neighborhood Watch
yep, we're the same folks that passed out the fliers and thanks for your taking the time to log ontot he discussion board and comment. We hope the flier thing wasn't too over the top but knowing the number of women in the neighborhood, including those in the Car Barn, we thought it a good idea to make sure everyone was aware. Please keep the updates to this thread coming and encourage your friends around the block to do the same - and not just about this one issue. We've overheard some talk from police that crime is in a bit of an upswing around here in terms of burglaries and muggings and it would be good for folks around here to stay up to date on day-to-day happenings. If the discussion gets loud enough, I have a wiki site set up that we can all move to in an effort to keep the chatter going.

Neighborhood Watch
I assume you are the same person who passed around fliers last night regarding the peeping tom. Thank you for doing that. We had a similar encounter with him during the same time period. We called the cops, but unfortunately a car driving through the alley spooked him before the cops could arrive. During the time that it is confirmed he was around the neighborhood we often found our patio furniture moved and other evidence that someone had been lurking during the night. For the last few weeks this has not been happening, but just the other day it started up again.

Hello Everyone, Myself and three other homeowners are currently occupying a 4-unit condo on the corner of 14th and East Capitol SE (across from Car Barn). We were wondering if there were any exisiting neighborhood watch-type forums or wiki sites out there where neighbors share current happenings around their block in an effort to stay updated on neighborhood activity. In recent years, we have had three instances of crime - a home burglary, a robbery at gunpoint, and theft from a car - all resulting in no personal harm. But we have recently been experiencing (twice now) the presence of a Peeping Tom at our building, accessing our back patio by hopping the fence off the back alley and looking through a female occupant's bedroom window. It is time for us to begin more open discussions with our neighbors about activity in our immediate block and we would like to start an online forum as a way to better communicate with our neighbors when we can't talk to them in person. I had planned to open my own wiki site, but want to avoid duplicating efforts and add to the momentum if a site like this already exists. Any insight or additional information would be appreciated and, as always, take extra caution out there. |
