Marvin replacement windows
Quote:
Can anyone recommend a contractor for Marvin? Thanks. | Did you find a contractor and have you had Marvins installed? If so, from what Marvin line? I'm thinking of converting to Marvin (their historic replacement line -- wood), and I'd love any information/assessments people can give of Marvin, installation contractors, etc.

Has anyone had any experience with Window Renovation, Inc. of DC, which uses the Bi-Glass window restoration technique? If so, what is your take on the quality of the product and of Keith Byrd's (the owner/operator) service. Is he reliable and timely? |
We used Keith Byrd to replace the replace/repair the glass and frames of all the front windows on our house. All of our sashes were also redone so the windows can tilt in for cleaning. He and his crew were all very professional and curtious. I would definitely recommend using him. -DG |
Thanks, doingygirl. In what condition were your windows before Keith refurbed them? Have you had a winter yet with the refurbed windows? I'm particularly concerned about air infiltration around the new vinyl sash liners. In particular, I'm told that it's difficult to get a tight fit between the old sash and new sash liners, on the one hand, and between the new sash liners and the old sash guides over which the new liners fit because of shrinkage of the old stuff over the years.

Has anyone used Keith Byrd's Bi-Glass to restore his/her windows? What's your take on the quality of his product and of his work? Was he responsive and timely?

Ok - the old threads were invaluable for first hand experiences with people who knew how to do work on our old houses- until we get them back though...
Anyone have recommendations or cautions for the following?
- reasonable electrician? - water damage repair for plaster and ceilings? - cutting new doorway in plaster/lathe wall? remove old kitchen tile flooring? - reasonable place to get semi-custom kitchen cabs for our tall ceilings?
Thanks for any ideas!
