| Rental housing roles shift to new agency |
VOICE writes, "The D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development has implemented a restructuring that, according to a release, will help the agency streamline services.
The department’s newly created Housing Regulation Administration has two arms: the Rental Conversion and Sale Division, which manages conversions of rental housing to condominiums and regulates rights under the Tenant Opportunity To Purchase Act; and the Rental Accommodations Division, which oversees rental housing registration and other landlord/tenant procedures such as rent adjustment."
|
These functions previously fell under the jurisdiction of the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. The restructuring also involves a transfer of staff members from the regulatory affairs department’s Rental Housing Commission. The commission will continue to hear appeals of rent administrator decisions.
The housing department’s new divisions will remain in their current location, at 941 North Capitol St., NE, Suite 1700, and the Rental Housing Commission will remain at the same address in Suite 9200.
The housing department will hold an informational session about the transfer of functions at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at 801 North Capitol St., NE, in the ninth-floor boardroom. More information is available at 202-442-7250 or dhcd.dc.gov.
The changes took effect Oct. 1, the start of the D.C. government’s 2008 fiscal year.
