| More Douglass bridge work this weekend |
VOICE writes, "The Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge’s inbound lanes on South Capitol Street up to N Street will be closed for the swing span restoration.
In August, the District Department of Transportation announced the completion of the first phase of the $27 million project restoration measures of the bridge. This weekend’s repairs complement the completed work."

Upgrades on the swing span area and streetscape improvements along South Capitol Street include environmentally sensitive lighting, handicap ramps and new sidewalks with pedestrian traffic signals. Reconstruction of the swing span region is focused on the steel framing.
During these improvements inbound drivers will be directed by message boards and detour signs on to Interstate 295 north to the 11th Street Bridge, which will then provide direct access into the city.
The inbound lanes will be closed beginning from 9 p.m. on Sept. 28 until 4 a.m. on Oct. 1.
