Near Northeast advisory neighborhood commission (ANC 6C)
writes, "
During its Nov. 14 meeting, the Near Northeast advisory neighborhood commission:
• supported a stipulated (provisional) liquor license for Pap and Petey’s, 421 H St. NE.
• supported a restaurant liquor license for Wolfgang Puck Catering and Events, 555 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
• decided no action was necessary on a restaurant liquor-license application for Anais Bar and Lounge,1104 H St. NE
• heard commissioner Charles Doctor say he thought the only practical way to contain the Chinatown Market at 6th and H streets NW, Subway Liquors at 500 K St. NW and Good’s carryout at 602 H St. NW, would be to pursue a moratorium on single sales. For various reasons, including the death of the Subway Liquors owner, talks about a voluntary agreement with the stores had not produced results, he said.
"
• unanimously voted to support closing an alley at 6th and K streets NW for the next 10 years as long as the area is secured.
• supported the closing of “paper alleys” around 2nd, 3rd, F and G streets. Interstate 395 was built over the alleys and they cannot be seen or used any longer. The city government must officially close them in order to pursue a proposal to develop the air rights above the freeway, said Latrena Owens, who was representing the deputy mayor for planning and economic development.
• supported a curb cut behind 608, 610 and 612 Maryland Ave. NE.
• voted to send a letter to the Zoning Commission about the Senate Square development projects at 4th and I streets NE. The commissioners said they felt that the developer’s project was approved on the premise that its units would be condominiums. Now they are being marketed as rentals.
• agreed to schedule public meetings devoted to the NW1 project planned for the Sursum Corda neighborhood along North Capitol Street between K Street and New York Avenue and west of 1st Street. The commission intends to hold at least two hearings.
• held an election to fill the 6C06 single-member district vacancy. Tom Hamilton won.
