| Blockbuster director to film at Eastern Market |
VOICE writes, "Blockbuster director to film at Eastern Market
BY CELESTE MCCALL Eastern Market is going Hollywood on Sept. 5.
Acclaimed director Ridley Scott (“Gladiator,” “Thelma and Louise,” “Alien” and “Hannibal”), plans to include our recovering market in his new movie, “Body of Lies.”
Based on local author David Ignatius’ political thriller, the flick will star Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio. "

For the scene, Eastern Market’s exterior — along with some incendiary special effects created in Los Angeles — will double for a market in Amsterdam. Plot giveaway: a couple of automobiles will flip over. Helicopters will be hovering to catch the overhead shots.
Special effects personnel will be at the market site for two days preparing for the shoot.
Tinseltown is no stranger to Washington. A couple of years ago, Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig (James Bond) were in town filming “Invasion,” now showing in local theaters. The sci-fi film is the latest remake of the 1950's “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.”
Scott’s last movie shot in the District was “Hannibal,” which had location shoots at the Southwest Waterfront and featured products from Georgetown’s Dean & DeLuca gourmet store that appeared in star Anthony Hopkins’ dramatic final scene.
The D.C. Film Office put out a casting call for residents to be extras in the Eastern Market scene. According to the call sheet, casting directors were looking for persons to portray military types, punks, international looks and owners of German-made cars.
