| Cosmos win Patriots Cup |

The Capitol Hill-based Washington Soccer Club Cosmos Under-9 boys soccer team won the Patriot's Cup on Sept. 2 at the Fairfax Police Youth Club Labor Day travel soccer tournament. The event attracted many top teams from Northern Virginia.
During the qualifying stages, the Cosmos finished unbeaten with 19-1, 5-2, and 7-2 victories. In the finals they shut out the Springfield Blue Strikers 5-0 with tournament MVP Marcellus Jones scoring three goals.
Many of the players began playing with Sports on the Hill as 3 year olds. "

“These boys have developed a true passion for the game and continue to challenge each other during practice,” said co-coach Mike Barette, who runs the teams with Brian Boshart. “They seem to have boundless energy. After playing two 60 minute games in 90 degree heat, they wanted to keep playing and did not want to leave the field”.
This is the second straight tournament victory for the Cosmos. They won the McSoccerfest tournament in July at Fort Washington.
Their success is a testament to quality coaching, hard work and playing spirit. The team will compete this fall against the best teams including from Alexandria, McLean, Fairfax, and Arlington in the National Capital Soccer League.
Team manager Jon Schans has played a major role in organizing the team over the last three years. “Providing kids with opportunities that are normally available to suburban kids is a real community asset. The boys attend many different schools around the Hill but soccer has bonded the kids and parents together,” Schans said. “We hope to build on the success of the Cosmos by creating a strong travel program that can be offered to the young players that are just learning the game.”
Representing Soccer on the Hill and training on the field at the Marine Barracks athletic field at Seventh Street and Virginia Avenue, SE, the Washington Cosmos are comprised of kids and coaches who live on Capitol Hill.
