VOICE writes, "Nurturing kindness at School-Within-School
BY SALLY AMAN Young learners at School-Within-School at Peabody Elementary celebrated the power and impact of compassion during the sixth annual Kindness Day.
The ritual was set in motion on September 11, when teachers quickly assembled the children to sing songs while waiting for parent pick up. "
|
Since then, each September the School-Within-School community of learners gathers together in song and engages in a unique ritual designed to build a community anchored by respect and empathy.
Kindness Day culminates with students forming two circles, with pre-kindergarteners forming the inner circle and Kindergarteners forming the outer circle.
The “older” students, kindergartners, then present hand-made friendship bracelets to each pre-K student, along with a special note welcoming the younger them.
